Torch Relay Video Ignites Frustration
By Marsha Lederman, The Globe and Mail Posted Tuesday, February 2, 2010

The first Olympia scene used by VANOC depicts torchbearers in ancient Greece. This was Reifenstahl linking the ancient Athenians and the Aryan people, races she deemed to be superior.

Before their run with the Olympic flame, torchbearers are loaded onto shuttle buses for the drive to their spot on the route. On board, they're shown a promotional video. Meant to inspire and excite them, the video depicts the history of the torch relay, beginning in ancient Greece.
But the video is raising eyebrows: it uses shots from the film Olympia, directed by Leni Riefenstahl, who made propaganda films for Adolf Hitler, most notably Triumph of the Will. And it also alters a scene to remove evidence of its connection to the Nazis.
"I was very surprised to see that it appeared in their formal, official welcome to the Olympic relay promo," said Ira Nadel, professor of English at the University of British Columbia, who has studied Riefenstahl. "I think that [the filmmakers] probably were somewhat unaware of the context of the footage."
Next comes a shot of a torchbearer entering an enormous stadium filled with people and athletes for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. In Olympia, hundreds of people give the Nazi salute. The VANOC video obscures this by framing the shot in black.
"The entire 1936 Games and images related to those Games are rooted in hate," said Romy Ritter, regional director of Canadian Jewish Congress, Pacific Region. "The 1936 Games represents a hateful and distressing period for our community and we wish that the footage wasn't included at all.

Those skies sure resemble two towers on fire to me! Considering the things happening in the world, almost doesn't surprise me at all that we are now introducing the fourth Reich at the Olympics. Pretty symbolic to me.

Re: Canadian Olympics
“WARNING: We now believe we have reasonable grounds to suspect there may be a “false flag” attack carried out during the Olympics in Canada. The games will take place in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 12th until Feb. 28th. Below, we have compiled the following suspicious activity by searching and analyzing the news from various media sources and by speaking with citizens in Canada themselves.”
Americans Traveling to Vancouver Olympics Warned of Possible Terror Threats
U.S. State Dept Says al Qaeda ‘One of the Greatest Potential Threats’ to the 2010 Games
By MEGAN CHUCHMACH Jan. 19, 2010 ABC NEWS
Americans traveling to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics are being warned by the U.S. State Department to stay vigilant about terrorist threats.
A recently issued fact sheet from the agency warns that al Qaeda’s “demonstrated capability to carry out sophisticated attacks against sizeable structures – such as ships, large office buildings, embassies, and hotels – makes it one of the greatest potential threats to the Olympics.”
The warning is part of a security assessment the U.S. government has issued in advance of the Games, which are expected to bring 60,000 to 135,000 spectators to the coastal city each day of the competitions.
The State Department said that although there have not been any “specific, credible terrorist threats” to the Games so far, “in the post-September 11th world, the threat from international terrorist groups at major public events is always a principal concern.”

Re: Canadian Olympics
November 2009
http://www.vancouverobserver.com/politics/news/2009/11/27/olympic-ramification-transfer-chemicals-vancouver-small-washington-town
Belmont Washington is the town where:
Vancouver-based Canexus Chemical had won permission from the State of Washington to store 50 railcars full of chlorine at the edge of their property line, just over the tracks---cars that, Biecker was told by a Canexus official, were considered to be a security threat and a potential terrorist target during the 2010 Olympic Games. The cars, he said he was told, will leave Canexus's North Vancouver plant and travel to his backyard before the Games begin. "He said their plan was to just bring it down during the Winter Olympics, but because they need a place to store their chemicals anyway, there's a 98% chance that they'll store cars here forever."
Let's hope nothing happens in either country.
