Pentagon Looks to Breed Immortal ‘Synthetic Organisms,’ Molecular Kill-Switch Included

Post  Camerlengo on Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:58 am

The Pentagon’s mad science arm may have come up with its most radical project yet. Darpa is looking to re-write the laws of evolution to the military’s advantage, creating “synthetic organisms” that can live forever — or can be killed with the flick of a molecular switch.

As part of its budget for the next year, Darpa is investing $6 million into a project called BioDesign, with the goal of eliminating “the randomness of natural evolutionary advancement.” The plan would assemble the latest bio-tech knowledge to come up with living, breathing creatures that are genetically engineered to “produce the intended biological effect.” Darpa wants the organisms to be fortified with molecules that bolster cell resistance to death, so that the lab-monsters can “ultimately be programmed to live indefinitely.”

these kind of people are always searching for immorality. china's first emperor thought mercury would make him live forever, but as we know it kills you so he had a short life. Wasn't it DeSoto that explored Florida during the Discover of America by Europe days that was trying to find the Fountain of Youth there? ...soma (that immortal elixir of the stories of old)... pops up in so many places.

ah!! you're right! that's who it was. I appreciate the critical thinking on your part. I need that. Very Happy

I knew I probably didn't have that correct, now I won't go through life thinking wrongly. I love the truth! thanks isabel. Smile

Interesting reading...?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qin_Shi_Huang
Elixir of life
Later in his life, Qin Shi Huang feared death and desperately sought the fabled elixir of life, which would supposedly allow him to live forever. He was obsessed with acquiring immortality and fell prey to many who offered him supposed elixirs.[42] He visited Zhifu Island three times in order to achieve immortality.[43] In one case he sent Xu Fu, a Zhifu islander, with ships carrying hundreds of young men and women in search of the mystical Penglai mountain.[30] They were sent to find Anqi Sheng, a 1,000-year-old magician whom Qin Shi Huang had supposedly met in his travels and who had invited him to seek him there.[44] These people never returned, because they knew that if they returned without the promised elixir, they would surely be executed. Legends claim that they reached Japan and colonized it.[42]

In response to Shi Huang Di (Sure Wong Di, is how it sounded ).. (sp.) Thats how it sounded to me at least when i was at his tomb, with the terracotta soldiers whom he took with him in the afterlife.

He thought if he had artisans make soldiers out of clay (each were 100% unique and different) that he could rule and have his army in the afterlife. It not only houses soldiers, but also chariots, horse, etc. Here's a link to the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terracotta_Army

It makes sense now with the search for the everlasting. There was no mention of this on the "plaques" that were there. However it did mention that he believed that the more you took with you to the afterlife, that you would command those items , people as well in the next life.

Interesting stuff though. Kinda ties in with other cultures that also believed in such ideas, maybe Egypt?

exactly like Egypt. Mounds, pyramids, ziggarats, same idea. Mounds in North America too with elaborate burials of a war like people in which the elite had these elaborate, wealthy burials with lots of stuff buried with them as well. Mississippian Mound culture, etc...
