Legatus info

Knights of the Holy Sepulchre
Legates invest in the Holy Land by supporting the Church in the land of Christ . .

In Catholic circles, however, knights are still a reality. One group of knights has never stopped working to protect the Holy Land’s Christians and sacred places. The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem has been active more than 900 years, ranking it as one of the Catholic Church’s oldest institutions.

The Order has 26,000 members in 53 different jurisdictions called lieutenancies. The organization has a worldwide reach with constituents in 35 countries and more than 12,000 members in the U.S. alone.

“The evaluation process for membership is quite thorough,” said Rita Deiss, Legatus member and Lady in the Order. “I consider it quite an honor to be a member.”

Women and men are equals in the Order, with the highest rank being Knight and Lady. Deiss is the first female chancellor for the Western lieutenancy of the U.S.

The Order has built 43 schools and Bethlehem University over the past 10 years, and a maternity wing is under construction at St. Joseph Hospital in East Jerusalem — the city’s only Christian hospital.

Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre have donated more than $50 million for the work of the Latin Patriarch since 2000, Cardinal Foley said. Most projects are suggested by the Patriarch. However, members also initiate projects.

“Our members visited a school in Zarga, Jordan,” Deiss explained. “They noticed there was no library. So they took it upon themselves to build one for them.”

The Order’s construction projects themselves help build bridges between Muslims and Christians by employing people of all faiths.

Cardinal Foley, who has participated in many of Legatus’ pilgrimages to Rome, said there is a unique connection between Legatus and the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre.

“As business leaders, Legatus members could have lots of ideas for the Holy Land,” he said.

Both groups have similar requirements, which may account for the high number of Legates who are also members of the Order.

“Knights have to obey and observe Catholic ethics and principles when carrying out professional and social duties,” said Monsignor Connelly. “Legates, in the marketplace, also observe Catholic ethics. A knight is asked to set an example as a Catholic in word and deed, and people in Legatus are proudly Catholic.”

Nice overview Nikki!

I am very interested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem(EOHSJ). I think it is even more elite than the Order of Malta - at least in Italy and Germany. People like Licio Gelli and Umberto Ortolani (P2 Grand Masters), Giulio Andreotti (Prime Minister of Italy), Konrad Adenauer (Chancellor of Germany) or Hermann Josef Abs (Deutsche Bank and I.G. Farben Director under Hitler and even later) were members among others. So the order seems to have great importance for the Holy See's inner global governance activities and is like the Order of Malta directly subordinate to the pope.

You'll find more infos here (although I do not think that everything postulate on these sites is correct):

An approach to this question could be the high relevance of the representatives of different orders/loges/brotherhoods/clubs that meet in Dana Point. We can find a representative of nearly every order of the highest level that is depicted on this map (Bush jr. =Skull/Bones; SMOM/ Legion. of Christ= Hanna; Opus Dei= Timothy dolan; Gingrich = 33rd freemason/Bohemian Club (according to a lot of sources I find although he denied it two days ago. How credible this claim is can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbLe03HRDKI&feature=player_embedded):

Furthermore the pilgrimage of the U.S. North Central Lieutenancy of the EOHSJ of which Dana Point Legatus visitor Cardinal George is the grand prior just ended today. (http://www.holysepulchre.net/portal/content.asp?ContentId=871)

I don't think the map is 100% correct or complete (the EOHSJ is for example missing) but it can give an idea of the higher structures that shape the global agenda. When such high representatives meet and you follow closely the news and know what to look for, you can make relative precise predictions....

Daily Readings for Saturday February 06, 2010
from
http://www.catholic.org/bible/daily_reading/

Reading 1, 1 Kgs 3:4-13
4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, since that was the principal high place -- Solomon presented a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5 At Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream during the night. God said, 'Ask what you would like me to give you.'
6 Solomon replied, 'You showed most faithful love to your servant David, my father, when he lived his life before you in faithfulness and uprightness and integrity of heart; you have continued this most faithful love to him by allowing a son of his to sit on his throne today.
7 Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king in succession to David my father. But I am a very young man, unskilled in leadership.
8 And here is your servant, surrounded with your people whom you have chosen, a people so numerous that its number cannot be counted or reckoned.
9 So give your servant a heart to understand how to govern your people, how to discern between good and evil, for how could one otherwise govern such a great people as yours?'
10 It pleased Yahweh that Solomon should have asked for this.
11 'Since you have asked for this,' God said, 'and not asked for long life for yourself or riches or the lives of your enemies but have asked for a discerning judgement for yourself,
12 here and now I do what you ask. I give you a heart wise and shrewd as no one has had before and no one will have after you.
13 What you have not asked I shall give you too: such riches and glory as no other king can match.

Kinda sounds like a fitting scripture for the last day of Legatus!

A little bit about the Gibeon

An ancient village of Palestine near Jerusalem. In the Bible, its inhabitants were condemned by Joshua to serve as manual laborers for the Israelites. (Ancient city of Canaan)

God planned to give the whole of Canaan to the people of Israel. Hundreds of years before, He had promised Abraham to give it to his and Sarah’s descendants. He also told Abraham why it would be so long before He kept His promise. The many different nations living in Canaan were cruel and wicked. But God would not drive them out while there was any chance that they would change their ways. He had waited a long time. Now He was sending the Israelites to take the land from them. While they were in the desert, God told Moses that Israel was not to make friendly agreements with any of the people in Canaan. He knew that if they joined with them they would soon copy their bad ways.

But the people of Gibeon, who lived only a short distance from Jericho, saw Israel’s success and wanted to make a treaty with them. They knew that Joshua would say “no” if he knew they lived in Canaan so they thought of a clever trick. They dressed in ragged clothes and worn-out sandals and put stale bread in their donkey’ packs. Then they journeyed to Israel’s camp “We want to make a peace agreement with you,” they said. “Where do you come from?” Joshua asked. “From far away,” they pretended. “Just look at our clothes and sandals--quite worn out. Our bread was hot from the oven when we left home, and look at these stale crusts now!” Joshua and the leaders did not wait to ask God’s advice. They made a peace treaty at once with the Gibeonites and promised to help them whenever they were in need

Three days later, they discovered the trick. Now they would not be free to capture the cities of the Gibeonites or drive them out as God had told them to do. But the Gibeonites were very pleased with their bargain. Now they would have the Israelites to help them against their enemies.

Canaan is an ancient term for a region roughly corresponding to present-day Israel/Palestine including the West Bank, western Jordan, southern and coastal Syria and Lebanon continuing up until the border of modern Turkey.

KING AND QUEEN OF MARDI GRAS TO BE CROWNED IN ANNUAL
CELEBRATION OF THE SPIRIT OF CATHOLIC PHILANTHROPY
Catholic Charities of Orange County provided food assistance to nearly 100,000 individuals in 2009
ORANGE, Calif., (February 8, 2010) – Catholic Charities of Orange County (CCOC) celebrates its 23rd annual Mardi Gras Ball, February 13 at 6:00 p.m., held at the Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif.

HUGE STUFF HERE

Jim and Susan Tecca will be recognized by Bishop Brown for their many selfless acts of charity and dedicated care for the poor and marginalized in Orange County. This
remarkable couple will be ceremonially crowned as King and Queen of the 2010 Mardi Gras Ball.

Jim and Susan Tecca are natives of Montana and first met at the University of Montana.
In 1965, just after college, they were married and shortly thereafter moved to Orange County where Jim’s first job was with Bank of America. In 1975, Susan joined Jim in
sharing his Catholic faith by converting to Catholicism. Jim continued his career in banking, real estate, venture capital, and as a corporate turn-around specialist. He
currently serves on numerous boards of directors for both public and private companies in a variety of industries.
The Tecca family has lived in both northern and southern California, and has now settled in Laguna Niguel where they are active members of St. Timothy’s parish. In addition to their roles as active parishioners, they have embraced a number of Catholic ministries.
The couple is involved with the Sisters of Mercy in San Diego and Jim served on the Board and was Board Chairman of Mercy Hospital and a board member of Scripps Health. As a result of their move to Northern California, Jim was the first member of the
laity to become Board Chairman of Catholic Healthcare West in San Francisco. He is also a Board Member and Treasurer of Legatus Orange County and a Board Member of the Orange Catholic Foundation

They are enthusiastic supporters of St. Michael’s Priory, Catholic Charities, and Taller San Jose. They feel that stewardship and sharing their time, talent, and treasure is an important part of their daily lives. As one who knows the journey of the convert well, Susan is a sponsor in the RCIA program at St. Timothy’s in Laguna Niguel.

Updated: President George W. Bush Receives Cardinal O’Connor Award from Legatus

snip
In an hour-long talk which he delivered without referring to notes, Bush wowed the audience and received six standing ovations. With many humerous anecdotes and sometimes serious insights into international politics, the former President held the crowd seemingly with ease.

Bush described his memorable trip to the Vatican with his wife and father, former President George H. Bush, for the funeral of Pope John Paul II. He described how as the Pope’s casket was being taken up some stairs the pall bearers seemed to tilt the open casket so that the body of the Pope could be seen, at which point, said Bush, the sun burst through some clouds to shine directly on the body of the John Paul II.

Bush was the 43rd recipient of the prestigious pro-life award and coincidentally also the 43rd President of the United States. Organizers thus joked that when seeing Bush in his ‘43rd’ baseball cap they would relish the thought that it was in recognition of his being the 43rd person to receive the John Cardinal O’Connor award, named after the late, heroically pro-life Cardinal of New York.

The award was also presented to four other recipients, Cardinal Francis George, the eighth archbishop of Chicago and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Kathleen Eaton, founder of Birth Choice Health Clinics, Dr. Johnny Hunter of LEARN, who is exposing the devastating effects of abortion on the African-American community, and Dinah Monaghan of Arizona who developed the pro-life precious feet.

Former recipients of the award also in attendance included Human Life International’s Fr. Tom Euteneuer, Campaign Life Coalition’s Jim Hughes, Priests for Life President Fr. Frank Pavone, and others.

Other speakers and presenters at the 2010 Legatus Annual Summit include Bella Star Eduardo Verastegui who presented his short film, The Butterfly Circus, actress Patricia Heaton, entrepreneur Frank J. Hanna III, Father Robert Spitzer SJ, Newt and Callista Gingrich, and Thomas Donahue, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

6 standing ovations (probably check clearing cheers), Pope story (the same pope that is being fast tracked to canonization), “43″ symbolic?

Yes, they will leave the EURO-Zone (currency union). There's no doubt anymore.

If you ask me, the new German Mark (DM II) is already printed. In the background must be much work to prepare the systems

wouldn't be a surprise if Austria joins the German and build a little DM II- Zone. But I have no confirmation for that. Just a thought.
