Coastal Birds Carry Toxic Ocean Metals Inland

Post  ianadds on Mon May 31, 2010 3:11 am

I am sure this BP disaster will have untold repercussions for years to come..
Coastal Birds Carry Toxic Ocean Metals Inland
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/05/100525133224.htm

ScienceDaily (May 30, 2010) — A collaborative research team led by Queen's University biologists has found that potent metals like mercury and lead, ingested by Arctic seabirds feeding in the ocean, end up in the sediment of polar ponds.

"The seabirds are obviously not directly to blame for the elevated metal concentrations in the ponds," says team member Jules Blais, a biology professor from the University of Ottawa. "They are simply carrying out their natural behaviours and lifecycles, but have become unwitting vectors of pollutants in an increasingly industrial age."

BP signs major offshore gas deal with Egypt

Post  ianadds on Tue Jul 20, 2010 9:09 am

Is this one of the instances of "pretend to punish" ??
BP signs major offshore gas deal with Egypt
http://asia.news.yahoo.com/afp/20100720/tts-egypt-bp-gas-energy-c1b2fc3.html

CAIRO (AFP) - – BP signed a significant agreement with Egypt on Monday to develop two offshore gas fields in the largest deal for the beleaguered energy giant since its drilling rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Egypt's petroleum ministry said in a statement that the deal with Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. would develop five trillion cubic metres of gas from the North Alexandria Deepwater block and the Western Mediterranean block.

The fields will produce 900 million cubic metres of gas a day starting from 2014, the ministry said. BP said in a statement that the concessions will produce up to one billion cubic metres a day.

More oil slicks being discovered in Gulf of Mexico

More oil slicks being discovered in Gulf of Mexico
http://peakoil.com/enviroment/more-oil-slicks-being-discovered-in-gulf-of-mexico/

As time goes by boat captians are finding additional oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico waters

Possibly these are the remains of the BP / Transocean oil spill , even worse these may be unreported oil spills from other gulf water oil facilities.

It is very common for oil company personnel to intentionally fail to report a oil spill. Especially if the oil spill occurs in the hours after darkness. With seas moving from 15 – 25 miles per hour once the oil enters the water it can be 50 – 75 miles away from the point of origin and very disapated , easily overlooked and possible undetected.

Oil spills come with increases inspections and fines starting at $ 100,000 for the oil company, this gives huge incentives to NOT REPORT the oil spills

I remember we had some drilling here in Switzerland (near Basel) for geothermal energy. Maybe 5 years ago they had to stop because of the earthquakes they made during their tests.
