AmbassadorsForPhilanthropy.com is Challenging the World to Unleash the Power of Philanthropy
Dame Stephanie Shirley, the British Government's Founding Ambassador for Philanthropy, today launched AmbassadorsForPhilanthropy.com, a global movement which brings together charities, companies, philanthropists and governments for a worldwide effort "to unleash global giving's potential".
Dame Stephanie is a leading philanthropist who has donated millions from her self-made software business. She and her team are devoted to transforming the potential of philanthropy into a dynamic reality by 'giving philanthropists a voice'.
Around the world, nations are seizing on the AmbassadorsforPhilanthropy.com concept to appoint their own emissaries for giving, while good causes and enterprises, such as Save China's Tigers, The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, Autism Speaks, Value Works, Project Unity, Merlin, New Orleans City Park and many others, are joining this global platform to modernize giving.
A key part of the new movement is to give today's philanthropists a voice: into governments, the media and the causes they support. Organizations join AmbassadorsForPhilanthropy.com, creating microsites upon which to create and broadcast videos of their donors' endorsements.

Former Enron Director donates
Former Enron director gives $100M to NY med school .
The philanthropist and former Enron director Robert Belfer and his wife Renee have donated $100 million to New York City's Weill Cornell Medical College.
The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/szPF82 ) reported the donors' identity prior to the school's announcement Wednesday.
Robert Belfer now runs a family investment firm, Belfer Management LLC.
His two sisters and father died of different forms of cancer. He said finding better treatments for the disease helped drive the donation.
Weill Cornell is raising $1.3 billion to build a 480,000-square-foot medical research facility in Manhattan.
The facility will double the medical college's existing research space when it opens in 2014.
Thirty new researchers will focus on a range of urgent health issues, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and age-related conditions like Alzheimer's.

Laura and John Arnold Foundation Will Launch Non-Profit Video Library in Early 2012
Laura and John Arnold Foundation Will Launch Non-Profit Video Library in Early 2012
In early 2012 the Laura and John Arnold Foundation will release the Giving Library, an innovative online video library that will serve as a tool for philanthropists to more efficiently survey the landscape of giving opportunities and to connect with participating non-profits.
The website will be constructed primarily for use by foundation grant makers and large and medium-sized individual donors. The ultimate goal is to drive interest and support to the organizations featured in the online video library.
"There is not currently a way for philanthropists to quickly but substantively look into a large number of giving opportunities, and we intend for this new site to address that need. Individuals that use the Giving Library will be able to easily locate, study, and engage organizations that fit their giving criteria," says LJAF Director of Communications, Meredith Simonton. "What would have taken months or even years of meetings and travel can now be done in a matter of days, from anywhere, with just a computer."
LJAF is covering costs for participants so that it is free to participate. The featured organizations will be licensed for the use of their own videos. The site will be free to all users as well.
