When the slam of a door chopped off the tip of her pinky, doctors told Deepa Kulkarni nothing could be done. She did her own research and proved them wrong.

Full face transplant man reveals his new look on TV
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10765005

A Spanish man who underwent the world's first full face transplant has revealed his new look before TV cameras.

The 31-year-old thanked his donor's family and the medics that gave him a new face in March at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona.

A shooting accident meant his entire facial skin and muscles - including nose and lips - needed replacing.

Doctors say he can expect to regain up to 90% of his facial functions.

He had been left unable to breathe, swallow, or talk properly after an accident five years ago.

In what is being hailed as the most exciting development in the field for 50 years, doctors can treat the condition with a simple procedure in under an hour.
It could allow some sufferers to come off medication completely and offer hope for those for whom existing treatments have no effect.

The new procedure, called renal sympathetic-nerve ablation, involves inserting a wire into a blood vessel close to the kidneys to burn through nerves which carry signals that stimulate high blood pressure.
It disrupts signals from the brain telling the kidneys to keep blood pressure raised. Initial tests suggest it can be effective within three months.

Doctors confirm woman's imaginary third arm

Doctors confirm woman's imaginary third arm
http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/Home/Archive/Doctors_confirm_womans_imaginary_third_arm.html?cid=655352

A 64-year-old woman has reported to doctors at Geneva University Hospital the presence of a pale, milky-white and translucent third arm.
After examining the case, the woman's neurologist, Asaid Khateb of the hospital's experimental neurophysiology laboratory, called the rare phenomenon credible.

The arm appeared to the woman a few days after suffering a stroke, doctors said.

But this case of what is known as a supernumerary phantom limb (SPL) is a genuine head-scratcher.

The brain of the 64-year-old patient reacts as if she had a third arm (T. Willemsen)

The Galleries of Justice in Nottingham claims to be one of the most haunted locations in Great Britain.
Scores of highwayman, murderers and thieves were subjected to public hangings from within its walls.
Many modern visitors to the site in Nottingham, now a museum, claim to have witnessed spooky goings-on from flying orbs to strange smells and rattling keys.
Now, a couple has stepped forward claiming to have photographic evidence of a supernatural being haunting the former dungeon.
Christine Spice visited the old prison and courtrooms with her partner Denyer earlier this month and took snaps of what she describes as "an eerie mass of white, like an evil male figure."
