UAE hotel erects 11-million-dollar Christmas tree
Christmas came in extravagant fashion to the Muslim desert emirate of Abu Dhabi as a glitzy hotel unveiled a bejewelled Christmas tree valued at more than 11 million dollars on Wednesday.
It is the "most expensive Christmas tree ever," with a "value of over 11 million dollars," said Hans Olbertz, general manager of Emirates Palace hotel, at its inauguration.
The 13-metre (40-foot) faux evergreen, located in the gold leaf-bedecked rotunda of the hotel, is decorated with silver and gold bows, ball-shaped ornaments and small white lights.
But the necklaces, earrings and other jewellery draped around the tree's branches are what give it a record value.
It holds a total of 181 diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones, said Khalifa Khouri, owner of Style Gallery, which provided the jewellery.
"The tree itself is about 10,000 dollars," Olbertz said. "The jewellery has a value of over 11 million dollars -- I think 11.4, 11.5."

Rare lunar eclipse expected tonight
Rare lunar eclipse expected tonight
A rare drama will play out in tonight's skies: a full lunar eclipse on the winter solstice.
The last one occurred in 1638, according to NASA, and tonight's may be only the second one in the last two millennia.
"Since Year 1, I can only find one previous instance of an eclipse matching the same calendar date as the solstice, and that is 1638," Geoff Chester of the U.S. Naval Observatory, who inspected a list of eclipses going back 2,000 years, said on NASA's solstice lunar eclipse page. The next lunar eclipse on the winter solstice won't be such a long wait, though. It's expected in 2094.
Skywatchers expect the eclipse to occur over a three-and-a-half hour period, starting at 10:33 p.m. PT today and ending 2:01 a.m. PT tomorrow. The Earth's shadow will completely cover the moon for about 72 minutes, according to NASA's eclipse page. The shadow is likely to have a reddish hue.

Russell 2000 wave count and Puetz windows
snip
Personally I think the next significant fall will probably occur around the December 21st time when we get a pseudo puetz window.
Several years ago, a stock market analyst named Steve Puetz checked to see if there was a relationship between eclipses and market panics. He studied eight of the greatest crashes in financial history, from the Holland Tulip Mania of 1637 to the Nikkei collapse of 1990. He found that market panics tend to occur around the time of full moons, and that the greatest number of crashes start after the first full moon after a solar eclipse, when that full moon is also a lunar eclipse. Puetz discovered that all eight crashes occurred six days before to three days after a full moon that occurred within six weeks of a solar eclipse. The odds of that being a coincidence, according to Puetz calculation, is less than 1 in 127,000.
The Dec. 21 2010 full Moon eclipse occurs before the Jan. 4, ’11 solar eclipse, which is similar to the lunar-solar eclipse period of last June-July; however, the June and Dec. 2011 lunar-solar eclipses and full Moons conform to the idealized Puetz crash trigger sequence, with the solar eclipse occurring before the lunar eclipse full Moons.
Based on this we could get a Puetz crash low occurring on or around the Full Moon eclipse or early Jan. solar eclipse

World's Highest Fireworks at Burj Khalifa Welcome New Year
World's Highest Fireworks at Burj Khalifa Welcome New Year
Dubai welcomed the New Year with an unprecedented spectacle - the world's highest fireworks at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building by Emaar Properties.
The 828 metres (2,716.5 ft) high Burj Khalifa was the centre of attention for a global audience as it marked New Year's Eve with a spectacular environment-friendly and satellite-guided laser-lights-fireworks show, telecast live to over 2 billion people.
Close to half a million people witnessed the New Year's Eve Gala from Burj Park, an island set on The Burj Lake opposite Burj Khalifa, and from other vantage points across Downtown Dubai.
The celebration also marked the first anniversary of the grand inauguration of Burj Khalifa, and enveloped Downtown Dubai, the 500-acre mega development anchored by the tower. The community was a sea of humanity, as people arrived to witness the spectacle several hours in advance. The four-act show was synchronized through satellite signals to and from a control station.
Described as 'The Centre of Now,' for its diverse showcase of high-end lifestyle destinations including malls, hotels, homes and offices, Downtown Dubai offered a stunning spectacle with lights and fog effects. The Dubai Fountain, the world's tallest performing fountain overlooking Burj Khalifa, hosted a special fire-water-music show.
Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman, Emaar Properties, said: "The New Year's Eve Gala at Burj Khalifa has positioned Dubai as the must-visit destination to celebrate new beginnings. The show was one of the finest spectacles anywhere in the world, and that in the coming years, Dubai will be the place visitors from across the world will choose to celebrate the New Year."

Janet Jackson
My oldest son took me to see Janet Jackson last night. I am honored that he wants to be seen out in public with his MOM, and thrilled that he appreciates and shares my love of music and dance.
Anyway, Janet and dancers were amazing as expected. Her last song was “Together Again” with a tribute to MJ. The song touched home and reminded me that our loved ones are always near and we will see them again:
Janet in Singapore singing “Together Again” and the MJ tribute. (Darn she looks good for 45)
