The Synod for Africa is meeting Oct. 4-25 at the Vatican in Rome.

Among other remedies, Pengo called for a greater spirit of communion within SECAM. He noted that the African bishops had planned to hold a plenary assembly of SECAM in Rome prior to the Synod for Africa, but it had to be scrubbed due to a shortfall of roughly $270,000 – in part, he said, because many member conferences didn’t honor their financial commitments.

His holiness Pope Benedict XVI

"Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audio-visual resources - images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites - which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis," he said.

Last year, a new Vatican website, www.pope2you.net, went live, offering one application called "The pope meets you on Facebook", and another allowing the faithful to see the pope's speeches and messages on their iPhones or iPods.

Vatican Accounts Could Improve in 2010

Despite Situation of "Permanent Difficulty"

A communiqué released today by the Vatican press office notes that 2010 could "reflect the hope of a possible economic and financial evolution."A communiqué released today by the Vatican press office notes that 2010 could "reflect the hope of a possible economic and financial evolution."
Evolution or revolution ?? Priests are going on-line and stock markets to crash ??

The communiqué revealed that the largest item of the budget is that concerning the payment of the 2,668 employees of the Holy See.
Shocked Very Happy Wink

Although it is not foreseen that the personnel will increase, "the relative financial burden grows anyway, because of the adaptation of salaries to the cost of living," the note stated.

Labor woes ??
Another important section is the maintenance of the media (Vatican Radio, the Television Center and L'Osservatore Romano), which "must be considered in the framework of the Church's missionary activity."

In regard to the budget of the Governorate of Vatican City State, the communiqué said it "has essentially overcome the difficulties of the preceding financial year," which allows one "to look at the future with greater confidence."
I guess we are paying for it..so they should be confident ?? LOL

Obama, 'seek and commit world without nuclear weapons'... I think of this often. At first I thought it would usher in his 'deity-status' amongst the minds of many people, if he actually did this, which is possible via back-door threats to other countries, etc.... To usher in the world gov't, with Obama leading the way, with a strength of the world gov't seen in people's eyes as it rids the world of nuclear weapons. People would undoubtedly think the world gov't is awesome if it could manage this. And now I think, if they did, they still have the back-pocket weapon of HAARP so the U.S. and other countries wouldn't really be giving up weapons of mass destruction. It would be a bait and switch move to delude people into thinking the world gov't is necessary and look how powerful it is in being able to do what was once thought of as impossible, ie. rid the world of nuclear weapons.
simply speculating
